The rumors were true, Baylor’s Phil Taylor was going to be drafted with the 21st pick in the first round. It just wasn’t by the Kansas City Chiefs. Scott Pioli spun the Chiefs first round pick to the Cleveland Browns for the 27th pick in the first round as well as the 70th overall selection, a third rounder.
After seeing a lot of players go much higher than expected — Christian Ponder and Jake Locker to name two — the Chiefs were staring at a board with multiple players that would fill a need.
Instead of trying to split the baby, Pioli was able to pick up an extra third round pick simply by falling down a handful of spots.
This move likely means the best available offensive lineman or wide receiver will be the Chiefs first round pick.
