Pre-Combine Mock: Another LB For Kansas City

The NFL Scouting Combine starts today and with a new batch of information will come shuffling draft boards.  The folks at Mocking The Draft took a final stab at a mock before that happens and in what is becoming a familiar theme, the Kansas City Chiefs are predicted to make a run at a linebacker.

21.Kansas City Chiefs (10-6) – Justin Houston, DE/OLB Georgia –

Scott Pioli has done an admirable job rebuilding the Kansas City Chiefs’ defense. The defensive line has been great this year, but a pass rushing linebacker could take this stop unit to another level.

Justin Houston is shooting up draft boards after a surprising season. He is one of my favorite pass rushers in this class.

I would disagree with MTD that the defensive line was great this year, because I believe it needs an upgrade in the middle.  With that said, the ends have shown a lot of potential and will allow the line to hold up a whole lot better next season as it currently stands than the corps of linebackers.

Be it Houston, Aldon Smith or Akeem Ayers, the Chiefs will have their chance to get Tamba Hali some help on defense if that’s the way they decide to go.  I’m higher on Ayers than most, but being an SEC guy — it would seem like Pioli and Todd Haley — I understand you can never go wrong adding a guy like Houston that went up against the best teams in college football every week.
