There has been a lot of back and forth between Kansas City Chiefs fans about just who the best option would be for Todd Haley & Co. with the 21st pick in the first round. What if the two players most mentioned didn’t have to be an either/or scenario but instead the team could have both? That’s how things shake out in the latest SB Nation mock.
21. Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin. Carimi is the most NFL-ready tackle available this year, and starts on the right side immediately for the Chiefs.
55. Phil Taylor, DT, Baylor. Projected in the first round, he’s poor value. Projected here, he’s terrific value. He fits the Chiefs defense very well.
Other than those that are clamoring for a wide receiver at the top of the draft, is there any fan that wouldn’t sign on for this right now?
Walking away from the first two rounds with one of the best offensive tackles and 3-4 nose tackles is an absolute home run. The only way Taylor falls into the 50s is if the reports about issues with his feet are true. A man of his size isn’t going to stay on the board that long if he checks out medically.
I’ve heard from plenty of people that aren’t excited about taking a right tackle in the first round, but filling a huge hole in the middle of the defensive line in the second round would make that much easier to take.
