After missing practice on Wednesday for the Detroit Lions and landing on the injury report thanks to a rolled ankle, WR Calvin Johnson made it clear he would be suited up when the Kansas City Chiefs come to town Sunday.
“I’ll be ready,” Johnson told reporters after practice. “I’m walking fine, it’s just you’ve got to get the swelling out before you can do anything. If you don’t get that out, it’ll just blow back up. Then I’ll be down for even longer.”
Even if he is slowed by the ankle, it will be a tall task for cornerbacks Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr to try and contain the explosive receiver. Considering the problems at safety right now, the best course of action would be to assign Flowers to Johnson, but Romeo Crennel generally keeps his corners dedicated to one side of the field.
The rolled ankle didn’t prevent Johnson from lining up as a safety on the final play of the Lions game against the Bucs to prevent against a possible jump-ball scenario.
