More than a moth after he was named as the Kansas City Chiefs head coach, Romeo Crennel has finally set his entire coaching staff. The team announced they have added five new coaches, promoted one and retained 10.
The new faces around Arrowhead will be Brian Daboll (Offensive Coordinator), Tom McMahaon (Special Teams), Jack Bicknell Jr. (Offensive Line), Jim Bob Cooter (Offensive Quality Control) and Derius Swinton (Special Teams Quality Control).
Former offensive quality control coach Nick Sirianni owns the lone promotion (Wide Receivers). It may not happen in Kansas City, but Sirianni is going to be a coordinator down the road. He’s a good one and well deserving of the promotion.
Rounding out the staff will be holdovers Maurice Carthon (Assistant Head Coach), Mike Clark (Strength and Conditioning), Gary Gibbs (Linebackers), Bernie Parmalee (Tight Ends), Anthony Pleasant (Defensive Line), Brent Salazar (Assistant Strength & Conditioning), Otis Smith (Defensive Quality Control), Emmitt Thomas (Defensive Backs), Adam Zimmer (Defensive Assistant/Assistant Linebackers) and Jim Zorn (Quarterbacks).
The names we haven’t heard as confirmed hires were Cooter and Swinton.
Cooter was the assistant to the offensive coordinator last season for the Indianapolis Colts and had spent the past three seasons there.
Swinton served under new special teams coach Tom McMahon with the St. Louis Rams.
Much like Jack Bicknell Jr., it appears Cooter and Swinton have no connections to the New England coaching tree, a welcome sign even this low on the totem pole.
