Second Round Mocks Focus On Offense

With Dontari Poe already in the fold to help fill out the Kansas City Chiefs defense, will GM Scott Pioli turn to the other side of the ball in the second round?

The Chiefs currently own the 12th pick on Friday night and Mel Kiper and Scouts Incs both feel the team will try to get Matt Cassel some help on offense.

Kiper sees South Carolina WR Alshon Jeffery as the pick for Kansas City while Scouts Inc. is projecting they will select Illinois G Jeff Allen.

Jeffery will come off the board in the second round, but I wonder if he’s a little too much like last year’s first round pick Jonathan Baldwin to be a fit in Kansas City. I’d be surprised if the Chiefs aren’t able to come away from this weekend with another receiver, just don’t see Jeffery being the guy.

Another position that should be addressed is guard and Allen would be a solid fit. Once he grabbed a starting spot as a freshman at Illinois, Allen never gave it up. Would slide in perfectly with new coordinator Brian Daboll’s offense.

In our seven round mock draft, North Alabama CB Janoris Jenkins was the choice and we’ll stick with that prediction heading into Friday night’s action.
