Every year there are a handful of players that really start to heat up as the NFL Draft approaches. Usually it is a player that executives have loved throughout the process, but have tried to keep their crush to themselves so to not tip their hand.
The latest example of that happening is Alabama S Mark Barron. Just how far could he rise before Thursday?
Some have suggested the Buffalo Bills are interested in him with the 10th pick and NFL Network’s Mike Mayock has projected Barron will be selected by the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 11 in his only mock draft.
This isn’t the first time the Chiefs and Barron have been connected. A couple weeks ago, ESPN’s Todd McShay listed the hard nosed safety as a possibility for Kansas City.
Barron is a beast and arguably the third best defensive player in the draft. However, I do wonder about GM Scott Pioli wanting to invest another high pick in a position that is already solid with Eric Berry and Kendrick Lewis.
At the same time, it would be hard to be upset with adding this kind of talent to your defense. While I’d prefer to go with Boston College LB Luke Kuechly (0ff the board in Mayock’s scenario) or Stanford G David DeCastro, there’s no denying Barron would add another dimension to the Kansas City defense.
