Chiefs Connection In Women’s NCAA Tournament

Looking for a team to pull for down the stretch of the women’s NCAA tournament? How about one that features the daughter of the Kansas City Chiefs all-time leading tackler?

If that works for you, then the Tennessee Volunteers are your team! Considering the Lady Vols took out the Kansas Jayhawks in the Sweet Sixteen there may be some Chiefs fans unwilling to get on board with Tennessee. However, if you look down the roster, you should immediately recognize a name on the Volunteers.

Coming off the bench for legendary coach Pat Summitt is junior Taber Spani, daughter of Gary Spani, member of the Chiefs Hall of Fame since 2003.

Taber played just five minutes against Kansas, but logged 16 and 14 in the first two rounds of the tournament. She’s averaging two points and 1.6 rebounds during Tennessee’s run to the Elite Eight.

Unfortunately for Taber and the rest of the Volunteers, they now have to face Brittney Griner and the undefeated Baylor Bears. The two teams square off Monday night at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN.
