The prevailing thought among “experts” has been that the Kansas City Chiefs will select an offensive tackle with the No. 5 pick in April’s NFL Draft. The name most assigned to them lately has been Iowa’s Bryan Bulaga and you can add the folks at WEEI that think Scott Pioli will select the former Hawkeye.
Much like the Lions with Bradford, the Chiefs are committed to Matt Cassel as their franchise quarterback. And there is no better way to give him more confidence following a mediocre debut in Kansas City than by solidifying the offensive line. Eric Berry is also an option here.
In this scenario, Berry, Jimmy Clausen and every offensive tackle other than Russell Okung are still on the board.
Pioli told Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff that he does not feel like you can draft a safety that high in the draft, but I think we all know there isn’t any executive in the league running around telling people who they will select. Berry makes the most sense from all sides and I will expect his name to be called right up until the Chiefs hand their card to Roger Goodell.
