While Leonard Pope’s occupation reads “NFL TE”, you can now include “Hero”. This weekend, Pope saved his friend Anne Moore’s son, Bryson, from drowning.
“We were attending a pool party, and Bryson was in the water with the other kids,” said Moore, who has known Pope since he was a little boy. “All of a sudden, I saw Bryson going down in the water and I started screaming. Leonard was inside, and he came out of nowhere and dove into the water without any hesitation, cell phone in his pocket and all. He saved my son’s life, and I am so thankful that he was there for me and my child.”
Moore said that Pope was the only person at the party who knew how to swim, so if he wouldn’t have been there she knows there is a good chance that her son could have drowned.
Awesome, just awesome. Talk about taking the “Right 53” to the next level!
Pope did what we all like to think we’d do when faced with a life or death situation. Forget about looking around to see if anyone else can help, Pope jumped right into action and got the job done.
I do have to wonder, however, why anyone thinks it’s a good idea to have a pool party with one person that knows how to swim. Here is hoping that Pope’s heroics will go a long way towards a group relying on a single person to prevent this sort of tragedy.
Well done, Leonard… Everyone in Chiefs nation is proud of your bravery!
