Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks.
Houston left Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick bruised and battered after sacking him 4.5 times in the Chiefs 26-16 victory Thursday night. The constant pressure eventually knocked the veteran out of the game in the final minute.
“It never gets old,” Houston said, according to the team’s official site. “I think it’s a team effort. When you’ve got guys covering their guys the whole time and the big guys in the middle pushing the pocket and Tamba [Hali] rushing from the other side, it’s very easy to make plays.”
With the Chiefs prepared to face a New York Giants team that gave up seven sacks to the Carolina Panthers last weekend, Houston could find himself taking home this honor a third time in four weeks.
Another big performance will go a long way towards pushing the NFL’s sack leader closer to becoming the all-time single season sack leader.
