After their impressive 24-17 win over the San Diego Chargers on Thursday Night Football, the Oakland Raiders are the top dogs in the AFC West. No matter what happens on Sunday, they will have at least a one game lead on the Chargers and either the Kansas City Chiefs or Denver Broncos.
If the Chiefs can take care of business Sunday, they will be tied with the Raiders with one more game against the current division leaders in Week 16. But things are likely to get very interesting between now and then as each team heads out of the division for most of the next month, though the Chiefs face the toughest road.
After this weekend Kansas City goes on the road to take on the New England Patriots, back home for the Pittsburgh Steelers, at Chicago Bears and finally the gauntlet ends on the road against the New York Jets.
The Raiders meanwhile are at Minnesota, home for Chicago, at Miami, at Green Bay and home for Detroit. Not an easy stretch but the games against the Vikings and Dolphins (despite what happened last week) are easier than anything the Chiefs are facing.
Denver will welcome the Jets then are at San Diego, at Minnesota, home for Chicago and New England before heading out to Buffalo to take on the Bills. A tougher stretch than Oakland’s, but not nearly what Todd Haley’s crew has to get through.
San Diego will head to Chicago then are home for Denver, at Jacksonville, home for Buffalo and Baltimore before facing the Lions on the road. No doubt the Chiefs would be happy to swap any of their games for the ability to go take on the Jaguars in Florida.
