Jamaal Charles Named To All-Big 12 Squad

When putting together a team made up of the best players to come out of the Big 12, there are tough decisions to be made.

ESPN.com tried their best when they put together an All-Big 12 team based solely on current skills. Jamaal Charles (Texas) of the Kansas City Chiefs was tabbed at running back despite missing most of last season after tearing his ACL. Charles got the call along with another back coming back from a knee injury, Adrian Peterson (Oklahoma) from the Minnesota Vikings.

While Charles was honored on the offensive side of the ball, there was a major snub on defense. Another Longhorn, Derrick Johnson, has as much right to being a starter at linebacker as the ones selected by ESPN: Aldon Smith (Missouri), Brian Orakpo (Texas) and Von Miller (Texas A&M).

Other than Miller, the other AFC West players on the team are Jeromey Clary (Kansas State) and Louis Vasquez (Texas Tech) of the San Diego Chargers. No current Oakland Raiders made the cut.

It’s important to note that only players from the 2011 configuration of the conference were considered for this version of the All-Big 12 team.
