Entering the final round of the America Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley knew he couldn’t win the tournament. After all, he sat in 66th place. He could, however, make sure he finished ahead of former Chiefs coach Herm Edwards (69th), Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow (T66th) and Kansas City QB Matt Cassel (78th).
That’s exactly what Haley did.
With a score of -2 (in this tournament positive numbers work best as you earn points for birdie, par, etc), Haley jumped up to 64th place, which the people “chasing” him finished with worse rounds.
Tebow show a -8, putting him in 67th place, six points behind Haley for the weekend. Edwards was right behind the Broncos QB, putting up a -3 good for 68th place.
Cassel had his best round of the tournament with a -11 though it only helped him bump up two spots
Former Kansas City Chiefs QB Trent Green also had his best day on the course (-16), helping him to avoid the basement. The only people that ended up with worse scores than Green were Charles Barkley, Jay Demarcus and Jimmer Fredette.
Haley wasn’t able to catch a few noteworthy golfers that were ahead of him entering the final round of play including former Chiefs Marcus Allen (44th) and Billy Joe Tolliver (T13th) and his former boss, Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt (T13th).
Actor Jack Wagner won the tournament with a final score of 80, while Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo finished second, three strokes back.
