Watkins never seemed to embrace the expectations that come with being a high pick and still needed plenty of seasoning to his game. As he continued to struggle in his sophomore season in 2012, Reid was forced to move Watkins to the bench.
As a free agent with the Chiefs he could be brought along at the speed he should have been last season. And Reid, who likes to carry nine or 10 offensive linemen, could get to that number in Kansas City with a familiar name.
But once Watkins cleared waivers, it was the Miami Dolphins, and not the Chiefs, that he was working out for. And it appears that’s where he is going to land, according to NFP.
With a deal between Watkins and the Dolphins expected Tuesday, it should put to bed any chance of a reunion in Kansas City. It also means there won’t be one player released by the Eagles ending up with the Chiefs.
