Early yesterday morning, Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was released from prison in Leavenworth, KS and will serve out the rest of his sentence in home confinement. There is rampant speculation regarding Vick’s future — if he has one — in the NFL. The folks at WagerWeb have posted odds on eight teams they feel could make a play for Vick and DocSports looks at each, including the Kansas City Chiefs.
Kansas City Chiefs (+400): They don’t need Vick as a QB with Matt Cassel now under center. And with the Hunt family also fairly conservative as owners, this is doubtful. But maybe new GM Scott Pioli, formerly of New England, is confident enough in the Patriot Way that he thinks his team could deal with Vick.
Meanwhile, Sporting News reached out to the Chiefs to get a reaction to their potential interest in Vick.
“The Chiefs have no comment regarding Michael Vick. They haven’t given any thought to it. They don’t want to be involved in any conversation about Michael Vick.”
And there you have it. Not that the Chiefs can comment on a player that is property of another team anyway, but they also could have simply left it at “No Comment”. Vick will be back in the league, the only question is if he tries to give it a go for this season or spend the year getting back into football shape and puts himself on the market next offseason. I know his talent belongs in the league, but I’m still trying to decide if he deserves another chance to showcase that talent.
The next edition of The Red & Gold Report — the KC Chiefs Blog’s podcast — will be arriving next week, but in the mean time you need to check out The Red Zone podcast with Soren Petro. There is a new show every Wednesday and yesterday’s episode he interviewed Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson.
Petro does such a great job putting this show together throughout the year, you need to catch every new episode. If you have any questions/comments/suggestions for future episodes of The Red & Gold Report, send them in using the contact form on the right.
Is it possible for a jersey number to be cursed? Chris at Arrowhead Pride today takes a look at the best Chiefs players to wear the #2 and it seems to appear that may be the case, even if only because of one player.
K *** *******
Not going to talk about this guy.
You can see the whole list over at AP, but I think the above (sort of) mentioned kicker is the only one you need to know about. It’s actually scary to think that the current owner of the #2 jersey could be the best player to ever wear it for the Kansas City Chiefs: Punter Dustin Colquitt. Go, Dusty!
