The Kansas City Chiefs are going to need a lot of help if they are going to win on the road against a tough Detroit Lions team. QB Matthew Stafford being without the best wide receiver in the league would be a big first step.
Chris McCosky of the Detroit News reports Calvin Johnson wasn’t anywhere to be found as the Lions got to work on Wednesday morning.
Calvin Johnson not practicing. Not on field
I watched the Tampa Bay-Detroit game on Sunday and it certainly didn’t appear Johnson was any worse for the wear. He made a recovery on an onside kick and was even on the field for the last play of the game as a safety in case of a jump ball situation in the end zone. Not exactly the work of an injured man.
Obviously Johnson could just be dealing with a day off to keep him fresh or a personal issue off the field. No matter the reason, any time a team’s best player isn’t on the field practicing it’s worth keeping an eye on.
McCosky says that Johnson rolled his ankle on Sunday and is receiving treatment but that he expects to play.
A banged up Calvin Johnson is better than most receivers in the league, but the Chiefs will take any help they can get in trying to slow him down Sunday.
