The Chiefs have been a part of a growing trend across the NFL in the last three weeks: covering the spread. In that time, underdogs have covered 28 of 44 times. Can the Chiefs help keep that trend going? Ed Ryan at the Boston Globe is banking on it, taking Kansas City as one of his four picks of the week.
Kansas City (+13 1/2) over SAN DIEGO: Perhaps something is brewing in Kansas City, as the Chiefs have won (and covered) two straight. Something is definitely brewing in San Diego; the Chargers have won five in a row, including a 37-7 mauling of these Chiefs. Matt Cassel, the Chiefs’ quarterback, was picked off three times and sacked four times in that game, but I’m banking on Kansas City learning something from that disaster.
I turn my head anytime a spread goes north of 10 points and when you get over 13 it’s almost impossible to ignore. Unless you have no doubt in your mind that the Chargers are going to stomp all over the Chiefs the way they did last time around, then you have to take Kansas City.
Yes, San Diego is one of the hottest teams in the league. But the Chiefs are a different team than the one that fell to the Chargers earlier in the season. I think Kansas City has a chance to go into San Diego and win outright, so if you give me nearly two touchdowns I am ecstatic.
