Following their convincing 42-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, the Kansas City Chiefs have two players nominated for Player of the Week at their respective position. Jamaal Charles is up for ground Player of the Week after running for 173 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown. Nominated for air Player of the Week, Matt Cassel completed 22 of 32 passes for 233 yards and four scores. In order to take home one, or both, honors they will have to take down some formidable competition.
Tom Brady – New England Patriots
Brady completed 21 of 27 passes for 341 yards and four touchdowns in the Patriots’ 45-24 win over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving day.
Jay Cutler – Chicago Bears
Cutler completed 14 of 21 passes for 247 yards and four touchdowns in the Bears’ 31-26 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Peyton Hillis – Cleveland Browns
Hillis had 26 carries for 131 yards and three touchdowns in the Browns’ 24-23 win over the Carolina Panthers.
Brian Westbrook – San Francisco 49ers
In his first extensive action of the season, Westbrook rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers’ 27-6 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night.
All three quarterbacks had four touchdown passes, but Brady was the most efficient with the most yards. Plus, when does anyone connected to New England not get a leg up when voting is concerned?
Anyone that saw the Seahawks-Chiefs game knows just how impressive Charles’ performance was but his stats aren’t nearly as gaudy as Hillis or Westbrook. The smart money here would have to be on Westbrook after he was seen in the offseason as possibly being forced to retire. To come out of nowhere and run all over the Cardinals on national TV should be more than enough to carry Westbrook to victory.
But what do I know? You can vote for Cassel and Charles on NFL.com.
