In a story that would be completely unbelievable if it was written about almost any other franchise in the NFL, Kent Babb of The Kansas City Star details the alleged lengths Chiefs GM Scott Pioli and owner Clark Hunt have gone to in order to keep tabs on their employees.

Though there are countless head scratching accusations, top of the list is former head coach Todd Haley not only believing the Arrowhead offices were bugged but that his cellphone — one he had before he was hired in Kansas City — was also tampered with.

Another is paranoia among employees getting so bad they would stagger their exit from the building at lunch so people from different departments wouldn’t get in trouble for potentially sharing a meal. That’s the type of stuff you expect out of cheating spouses, not co-workers that want to share an appetizer at Chili’s.

Then there’s also Pioli and team president Mark Donovan using a candy wrapper left in a stairwell as an example of the sort of attention to detail the new regime was looking for on a daily basis. Donovan acknowledged this one to Babb, calling it “a great coaching moment.”

I’m the first one to agree with Pioli there needs to be accountability among employees. It’s something that unfortunately is disappearing these days, but there is such a thing as going beyond asking for accountability and simply playing the role of big brother because you feel it’s your right.

After all, it’s not paranoia if they really are out to get you.

Things weren’t all bad at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. Sure the Kansas City Chiefs were terrible while losing to the Miami Dolphins 31-3, but during halftime the fans got to see the play of the year.

That’s when Staff Sgt. Williams Bell surprised his fiancé, Staci Lowe, on the field during a special military tribute. Lowe was watching a video of Bell on the scoreboard and crying as she heard that his flight from Iraq had been delayed.

Then the crowd started to erupt as Staff Sgt. Bell ran out of the tunnel and onto the field. The couple obviously were taken over by emotion as Lowe told KMBC what it meant to have Bell home.

“I thought it would be great for him to be here,” Lowe said. “I’m tired of the videos. I’m tired of seeing him over the camera. I’m ready for him to be home.”

You can see the video of the reunion here.

The fine production folks at KCChiefs.com also put together a great highlight video from the game that shouldn’t be missed.

With the help of a ghoulishly dressed symphony, Dawson detailed the Chiefs comeback from a 0-3 start and declared “Kansas City will rise again!”

Rise again indeed, as the Chiefs beat the San Diego Chargers 23-20 in overtime to grab a share of the AFC West lead.

Check out the great intro, including a shot of a deafening Arrowhead.

Once the Kansas City Chiefs decided to pour so much money into Arrowhead Stadium for renovations, it was just a matter of time before they found a way to recoup some of that cash with naming rights.

According to Bob Gretz, the team has come to an agreement with a business to put its name on the stadium or field. The announcement is supposed to come in conjunction with the MNF game against the San Diego Chargers on Halloween.

While we don’t yet know what the name will be, the report says it will be one that is “very familiar”.

The Chiefs, for their part, have denied the report saying “nothing is imminent“.

In today’s economy, teams — and any business for that matter — need to find money wherever they can and I will never take issue with that. But would they dare drop “Arrowhead” from the name of the stadium in place of “American Airlines” or some other huge company name to guarantee a bigger fee?

That would be an absolute disaster.

I’d much rather they give us “Preparation h Field At Arrowhead Stadium” than something ‘hip’ like “Google Stadium” as long as it means we don’t lose “Arrowhead Stadium”.

Parking and admission is free for the night, which will feature a practice, autograph session and finished with fireworks. Considering it costs an arm and a leg to park on game day, if you area you should take advantage of this free event.

The Arrowhead parking lot will open at 5, with the stadium gates opening at 6 followed by the autograph session at 7 until practice starts at 7:15.

While all of those things are great, the highlight of the night will be going on in the new Draft Room at 5:15. That’s when the Chiefs Cheerleaders will unveil the 2011 Swimsuit Calendar. Practice, schmactice… miss out on the Swimsuit Calendar and you’ll be setting a terrible tone for the season.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced that Joplin High School will take on Raymore-Peculiar on October 21st at Arrowhead Stadium with all proceeds going ot the Joplin Schools Tornado Relief Fund.

If you’ve ever played football at a bigger stadium then you know the unique experience these kids are going to get and I can’t think of a team more deserving of something special. And as Chiefs President Mark Donovan said, it’s a great opportunity to keep the focus on the people of Joplin.

“Our hope is that the game will not only raise funds for the schools, but raise awareness about the ongoing needs as the city moves forward.”

Tickets for the game are only $15 and on sale now. Get all of the ticket information over at the Chiefs official site.

The only thing that rivals being able to talk about Kansas City Chiefs football again? The lights are back on at Arrowhead!

With Scott Pioli, Todd Haley, Mark Donovan and Clark Hunt all meeting the media today, the Chiefs decided there was no better time to flip the switch.

KCTV’s Mark Boyle provided the great visual and summed things up perfectly on Twitter:

Every time the lights at Arrowhead Stadium are on, you can just feel football in the air. #chiefs #itsyourmorning

Now we all get to ride this crazy whirlwind of action together as the Chiefs kick off training camp later this week.

The Kansas City Chiefs were one of several teams that rolled back the salaries of employees during the lockout to try and save money. However, according to multiple reports, the team has decided to restore that money, plus a 3% raise.

The raise would apply to everyone and be retroactive to March.

Chiefs employees, including head coach Todd Haley and general manager Scott Pioli, had their salaries reduced up to 10 percent after the lockout started in March.

There was no need for Clark Hunt to cut salaries in the first place, so it’s hard to give the team credit for this move, but adding a raise is worth noting. Simply restoring the money retroactively would have been enough for most people.

After the actual news that we will have football as scheduled, this is the perfect way to close the book on the lockout.

So much for all of the positivity floating around the NFL in the last few days as the lockout winds down. The Kansas City Chiefs will no longer allow their stadium workers to hang around and watch the games once their duties are fulfilled. Ticket-tacker Steve Warner talked to Fox 4 about the new rules handed down by the team.

“You work hard … We don’t get paid a lot of money,” said Warner, who says that ticket-takers and parking attendants don’t get seats to watch the game, but were allowed to be part of the Arrowhead experience from a standing-only area.

“Why take that privilege away from everybody? Because it’s been there for us for years, and the thing about it is we work so hard at the beginning of, when they open the gates, we work so hard. When you work four hours and you stand and knowing that you get that benefit of going and watching the game,” said Warner.

In a prepared statement, the Chiefs said, “We’re working to develop policies and practices that provide the best possible experience for our fans; and fair and appropriate compensation and benefits for our employees.”

These certainly aren’t Lamar Hunt’s Kansas City Chiefs.

This seems like one of these ridiculous things that a company would come up with in a board meeting while joking about how to get an upper hand in negotiating a new labor deal, but never went beyond the board room. Seriously… how does this happen?

Not only are you disrespecting the people that work at your stadium, but it’s not as if these are the days of Arrowhead being sold out every weekend. As least if the workers were taking away the spot of a paying customer I could understand where Hunt and the Chiefs are coming from. The fact that the team does not lose one cent from these employees watching the game should be the end of the argument.

After watching Arrowhead lose some magic the last few years, is there any reason to remove even more noise from the stands?

C’mon Mr. Hunt… do the right thing.
