The Kansas City Chiefs announced their list of seven inactive players for today’s game against the San Diego Chargers and it includes three starters, two on the offensive line.
G Jon Asamoah, QB Tyler Bray, DE Mike Devito, OT Eric Fisher, C Eric Kush, LB Nico Johnson, CB Dunta Robinson
Devito had already been ruled out by the Chiefs, but there was hope that Asamoah and Fisher might be able to give it a go. With them being ruled out, that moves Donald Stephenson into the starting lineup in place of Fisher and Geoff Schwartz for Asamoah.
The injuries will be felt beyond the starting lineup. With the two starters out, that means little-used linemen Rishaw Johnson and Rokevious Watkins are both active and may have to contribute on special teams. With communication always being key, but especially with protections on punts and field goals, we definitely need to keep our eye on special teams.
Losing Devito doesn’t hurt as much since DE Tyson Jackson is active and will start. If both ends had been out, which looked very possible heading into today, that would have left NT Dontari Poe on the defensive line without much help. Now guys like Mike Catapano and Allen Bailey can rotate in without needed to do more than they should.
On the other side of the field, the Chargers got some good news with WR Eddie Royal. He was unable to practice all week, but he’s active and starting. Along with TE Antonio Gates, who has always been a Chiefs killer, Royal will get plenty of attention from the Kansas City secondary.
