For years, the Kansas City Chiefs held a wide lead in their all-time series record with the San Diego Chargers. Now Monday night, as the Union-Tribune points out, the Chargers finally have a chance to catch the Chiefs.
San Diego’s had to win the last five meetings, six of seven and nine of 12 just to cut the K.C. lead in the overall series to 50-49-1. The Chargers had their share of close calls last year, but neither of them was against the Chiefs, vanquished by San Diego by scores of 37-7 and 43-14.
I’m less concerned with the all-time record and more with avenging the two beat downs that the Chargers delivered last season. Don’t get me wrong, all 12 losses were tough last year but few were harder to take than the Bolt massacres.
You never want to make too much out of one game, but the Chiefs can accomplish plenty on Monday. Right off the bat, a win would let the league know that the AFC West is up for grabs and hopefully start to rebuild the Arrowhead mystique.
