The Kansas City Chiefs have addressed two needs in as many days with the additions of RB Peyton Hillis and TE Kevin Boss. Can GM Scott Pioli close the deal on the biggest hole his team has by inking a free agent for the third straight day?
Free agent OT Eric Winston arrived in Kansas City Thursday and was scheduled to meet with the team on Friday. Winston is reportedly looking to become the highest right tackle in the NFL, an issue that could give the Chiefs pause, but it shouldn’t.
He has a visit scheduled with the Baltimore Ravens for later in the day, a meeting the Chiefs need to make sure never takes place. Pioli and owner Clark Hunt should present Winston with a contract Friday he cannot turn down.
With it looking more and more likely Matt Cassel will be the unchallenged starter at quarterback in 2012, Pioli needs to place him in as easy a situation to thrive as possible.
Pairing a recovering Jamaal Charles with Peyton Hillis at running back was a good start and adding insurance for Tony Moeaki at tight end with Kevin Boss was a solid encore. Replacing the black hole that was Barry Richardson with Winston would be one of the biggest upgrades any team will make all offseason.
