The Kansas City Chiefs roster is now at the league maximum of 75 with the release WR Jamar Newsome. They needed to free up one spot by 3:00 p.m.
Originally catching on with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011 as an undrafted free agent out of Central Florida, Newsome spent time on the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad before making his way to Kansas City.
Last year he found himself not only promoted to the active roster, but immediately a target on offense as the Chiefs offense struggled to find capable wide receivers.
Newsome wasn’t included in our latest roster predictions for the 53-man roster.
On Monday the team released 14 players, leaving one more player that needed to be cut. That final move could have also been moving a player like TE Tony Moeaki or S Sanders Commings to injured reserve.
Holding off on making an injury designation has to be seen as a good sign for both players. The Chiefs will now focus on their final cut to 53 players which needs to be completed by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
