The Kansas City Chiefs removed the only player that was on their injury report last week from the active roster when they moved Donald Washington to injured reserve. Even with that move, the Chiefs injury report increased by one though neither was suffering from an actual injury.

If both players were just out with an illness as is being reported — after Matt Cassel’s appendectomy, I think it’s fair to stay a little cynical — then the Chiefs are actually lucky. That would mean they are hopefully going to have every player on their active roster and practice squad available to help with preparation for Sunday’s playoff game with the Baltimore Ravens.
That sort of health is a huge, huge deal. Especially considering how many big hits that prominent Chiefs players took during last week’s loss to the Oakland Raiders. Matt Cassel, Jamaal Charles and Dwayne Bowe were all visibly shaken at times during the regular season finale but healthy enough to stay off the injury report (well, for an actual injury anyway). That doesn’t mean they aren’t still hurting, but practicing without limitations is a great start for Cassel and Charles and hopefully will continue with Bowe.
