The Kansas City Chiefs may have struggled to beat the winless Buffalo Bills and lost to the Oakland Raiders, but that wasn’t enough to convince oddsmakers to make them underdogs on the road this weekend in Denver.
Instead, the Broncos are one of five home underdogs on the schedule.
While the Chiefs may be struggling, but the Broncos have been a mess in every sense of the word. Denver has lost four in a row, including the last two by a combined score of 83-30. They are fresh off a bye week following a miserable showing in London against the San Francisco 49ers.
Last week Kansas City went on the road to Oakland as 1 point underdogs, a number that as it turns out wasn’t quite big enough with the Raiders pulling out a 3 point OT win.
After failing to effectively run the ball against the Raiders 26th ranked rush defense, Kansas City will get a shot at the second to worst unit in the league. In London, the 49ers racked up 143 yards on the ground, including 118 for Frank Gore.
Playing in the thin air the Chiefs will need as many healthy bodies as possible on the ground and if Jamaal Charles isn’t able to handle a full load we could see Jackie Battle jump into the fray with Thomas Jones.
Under normal circumstances I would worry about taking on a team at home off a bye, but the Broncos look a lot like a team that needs 3 or 4 weeks off before getting themselves straightened out.
