The Kansas City Chiefs haven’t seen much consistency this season, but one thing they have been able to count on all season is being the underdog according to Las Vegas. The Chiefs are underdogs for the sixth straight week to start the season and haven’t been favored since Week 16 of last season.
In Sunday’s matchup in Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers opened as 3.5 point favorites, just the second time this season they aren’t the ones playing as underdogs.
Despite being the underdogs every game this season, Kansas City has performed better against the spread (2-3) than straight up (1-4). On the road, the Chiefs are 1-1 against the spread, with the victory coming against the New Orleans Saints when they won their only game of the season outright.
The Bucs started out the season with a big win over the Carolina Panthers before dropping their next three. Tampa Bay lost those three games by an average of just five points, helping them go 3-1 against the spread, though just one of those games was against a team — the defending champion New York Giants — currently over .500.
If the Chiefs can use this week to get a few of their injured players back on the field after their improved performance last week against the Baltimore Ravens, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be a solid play Sunday.
