The Kansas City Chiefs have changed their fortunes on the field over the last three games, but there is still one constant from their 0-3 start: no respect from oddsmakers. For the sixth straight game, the Chiefs find themselves as underdogs.
When the San Diego Chargers come into Arrowhead Stadium for Monday Night Football, they will be favored by 3.5 points over the Chiefs.
The Chiefs started the regular season as 5.5 point favorites over the Buffalo Bills, but have been underdogs in every game since even after winning three games in a row. Meanwhile, the Chargers are fresh off a 27-21 loss on the road to the struggling New York Jets and have to recover from a cross-country flight as they prepare to head back on the road to Kansas City.
When these two teams met in Week 3, the Chargers were 15 point favorites at home and were lucky to walk away with a 20-17 victory thanks to a Matt Cassel interception in the final minutes.
Despite the loss to San Diego this season and the 31-0 destruction in Week 14 last year also on the road, we all remember the last time the Chargers came into Arrowhead with hopes of taking out the Chiefs on Monday Night Football.
That showdown opened last season — not to mention the New Arrowhead — and let the league know that things were different in Kansas City. Highlighted by a 56-yard touchdown run by Jamaal Charles and and 94-yard punt return for a score courtesy of Dexter McCluster, the Chiefs shocked the Chargers 21-14.
With a win, the Chiefs will grab a share of the AFC West lead and give themselves a chance to make some major noise over the next two weeks before their schedule gets significantly more difficult.
