The Kansas City Chiefs have yet to name their offensive coordinator for next season and while it may not be quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn, he’s clearly valued by the franchise. The Chicago Sun-Times reports the Chiefs denied the Chicago Bears request to speak with Zorn.
A source told the paper Chicago wanted Zorn to be the Bears quarterbacks coach.
While team’s won’t usually prevent a coach from interviewing for a job with another franchise that will be a promotion, they will stand in the way of a lateral move.
The Bears hired Chiefs college scouting director Phil Emery to be their general manager this week.
With Zorn off the board, Chicago is said to be looking at Alex Van pelt to be their quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. Van Pelt has a connection to the Chiefs as well, spending a brief time as one of their backup quarterbacks.
