Chiefs Fill Open Practice Squad Spot

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed LB Eric Bakhtiari to their practice squad, filling the vacancy created when S Ricky Price was promoted to the 53-man roster this past weekend.

Bakhtiari played in three games with Tennessee in 2009, posting six special teams tackles.

He has also spent time on the practice squad with Miami (2010), Tennessee (2009), Tampa Bay (2009), San Francisco (2008, 2010) and San Diego (2008).  He originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with San Diego in 2008.  He was a three-time Pioneer League first-team selection at the University of San Diego.

The Chiefs now have two linebackers — Pierre Walters is the other — among their 8 practice squad players.  With the shuffling they have been doing lately on the bottom of the roster, it’s not out of the question that Bakhtiari or Walters find their way into a promotion.

Special teams coverage has been an issue for Kansas City, making it truly a weekly competition for a spot on the 53 — and ultimately 45 — man roster.
