The Kansas City Chiefs hit the practice field on Wednesday to start preparation for Sunday’s game in St. Louis against the Rams and released their first injury report shortly after. After having to deal with their fair share of injuries over the last month, the Chiefs injury report didn’t exactly look like one.
Matt Cassel (appendectomy)
It will get overshadowed while “How The Appendix Turns” continues, but it is absolutely amazing that the Chiefs are entering the 15th week of the NFL season and only have one player on their injury report. Not only that, but with that one player on the field means that out of 61 possible players (53-man active roster, 8-man practice squad) all 61 were taking part in practice.
Barring an injury over the next two days of practice we should get a look at a Kansas City secondary at full strength for really the first time since the beginning of the season. Other than Eric Berry and Brandon Carr it seems every other defensive back has dealt with some sort of ailment.
No matter how many healthy bodies they get out on the field, as we mentioned, Cassel is the only player that will garner any attention. He said after practice that he wanted to play and he practiced in full pads while taking reps with the first team offense. That all sounds like a player that will be playing on Sunday.
