The Kansas City Chiefs were back on the field again on Thursday as they get set to head to Denver to take on the Broncos. With one more practice came another new name added to the injury report.
Kendrick Lewis (hamstring)
Dexter McCluster (ankle)
Jon McGraw (knee)
Brian Waters (shoulder)
McCluster continues to make progress every day and I’m sure he will make it awfully tough for Todd Haley to keep him on the sidelines for another game. However, as nice as it would be to have him out on the field, even if only as a decoy, I’d rather McCluster take another week to make sure he’s is all the way back. The last thing the Chiefs need is for him to go out and try to do too much and lose their most explosive rookie for a big chuck of the second half of the season.
As we talked about yesterday, it’s tough to tell how a hamstring injury will react when a player tries to turn it on in pre-game warmups but all signs point to Lewis getting back into the lineup this weekend
McGraw would be a big time loss for the Chiefs defense. He might not put up flashy stats, but he adds much needed leadership and experience to a very young secondary. McGraw showed earlier in the season that he can still lead in street clothes though we can all agree that would be a worst case scenario if Lewis is forced out as well.
Do we even need to talk about Waters? I’d be shocked if he was anywhere but where he’s been 141 times for Kansas City: the starting lineup. When you start all but 3 games over the last 9 seasons, it takes something special to knock you down for the count.
