We are still a couple months away from training camp, but that hasn’t stopped ESPN.com’s Bill Williamson from putting together his All-AFC West team. The Kansas City Chiefs have placed three players on his pre-preseason squad for the division.
Running Backs – Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles
The Chiefs have the two best running backs in the division. It’s a strong division for running backs, but the Chiefs have something special. This is the strength of the team. Charles is a third-year game-breaker and Jones, who will be 32 this summer, is a savvy veteran who ran for more than 1,400 yards last season. This is a powerful combination.
Safety – Eric Berry
I expect Berry, the No.5 draft pick in the draft, to make an instant impact. The Chiefs are going to unleash him right away.
You won’t get me to argue with any of these selections.
The Broncos have a decent young back in Knowshon Moreno, but he has yet to show even a shred of Charles’ explosiveness and obviously Jones’ resume speaks for itself. As for the Raiders, no one really knows what’s going on with their running back situation. Obviously the Chargers have a spark plug in Darren Sproles, but they will rely heavily on rookie Ryan Mathews.
At the safety position opposite Berry, Williamson selected Brian Dawkins in Denver. The only players that could give these two guys a run for their money would be the always solid Eric Weddle with the Chargers.
