The Kansas City Chiefs will be without one of the few players they signed in free agency this season after LB Brandon Siler tore his achilles’ tendon, according to his agent David Canter.
Reports state the injury happened in practice this week and that Siler has already had the season-ending surgery.
Siler’s absence will open the door for incumbent ILB Jovan Belcher to keep his job without much of a struggle. The Chiefs were thin on the inside at linebacker even before Siler’s injury and will now likely keep their eye out for a veteran to help push Belcher.
If Scott Pioli can’t find a veteran on the waiver wire, they can look to use Demorrio Williams on the left side. That is, unless they feel special teams standout Cory Greenwood or Justin Cole can get the job done. Either way, the options aren’t encouraging for a defense that is going to face a lot of stiff tests early and often in 2011.
