21. Kansas City Chiefs: Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin. Phil Taylor is a very popular projection to the Chiefs, but it’s tough to envision Scott Pioli liking Taylor’s tape enough to take him this early. Carimi’s as NFL-ready as they come at tackle, and could solidify the Chiefs’ already-solid line immediately.
I’m thinking about renaming the site “Gabe Carimi’s KC Chiefs Blog” until the draft in a couple of weeks. The more I watch of him and the less enamored I become with the other players likely to be available in the early twenties at the Chiefs biggest trouble spots, Carimi seems more and more like the best choice.
As I shake out the various scenarios, there is a good possibility that a handful of very good offensive tackles could still be on the board when the Chiefs are on the clock. If Scott Pioli decides he wants to solidify the line and has a couple of these guys graded similarly, Kansas City could be poised for a move back 6-8 spots. That way they could get a tackle and grab a few extra picks in the process.
