The Kansas City Chiefs, fresh off their hard fought loss to the Indianapolis Colts, will take the trip south to Houston this week and once again find themselves as underdogs in the opinion of oddsmakers in Vegas.
The 3-2 Texans are 4.5 point favorites even after being dismantled by the New York Giants 34-10 at Relient Stadium this past weekend.
Similar to the Colts game, I don’t think the Chiefs should be the darlings of Las Vegas and be road favorites, though it would be nice to see a line closer to something like the 1.5 that Dallas getting in Minnesota this week. It’s even more maddening that I’ve been told the number could get bumped north to as high as 6 points before kickoff.
Both teams have three wins, but they are not coming into this game on equal footing. To call their loss to the Giants a dismantling was being kind. They looked like they didn’t belong on the same field as the G-Men and haven’t played well for long stretches since their Week 2 win over the Redskins 30-27. In that game, Matt Shaub needed every one of his 497 yards to pull out that victory.
The Chiefs come in with the same 2 game lead in the division they held last week, while the Texans are currently in a 4-way tie in the AFC South. With the Jaguars and Titans playing this week, Houston is guaranteed to be in a hole if they fall to Kansas City making the urgency a bit stronger on their end.
With the Texans struggling so mightily against the Giants defense and the Chiefs defense playing as well as anyone in the league right now, it would have seemed reasonable to see this game be closer to a PK than a one touchdown game.
