One Chief Upgraded On Latest Injury Report

There weren’t any additions Thursday to the Kansas City Chiefs injury report for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, but they were able to upgrade a key member of the offense.

A head/neck injury prevented WR Dexter McCluster from getting on the field Wednesday, but he was able to practice on a limited basis. If he can get it going on Friday, we could see him back on the field Sunday, which would be a huge upset after the hit he took in the loss to the Denver Broncos.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, the good news stop with McCluster. The other four members of the injury report — all starters — were still unable to practice. Included in that group are offensive linemen Branden Albert and Ryan Lilja and LB Tamba Hali.

Albert missed last week’s game and while rookie Donald Stephenson held his own filling in, Kansas City would obviously much rather have the veteran up and ready to go. You’d also have to wonder about the trickle down effect on Stephenson if Lilja is also out of action, bringing another less experienced player into the fold.

Hali has only missed one game in his career because of injury, but he’s not looking good for Sunday. That is good news for Panthers QB Cam Newton, who would only have to keep his eye on Justin Houston and not much else while in the pocket.

Speaking of Newton, he’s still on the Carolina injury report, but as a full participant in practice there’s no doubt he’ll play Sunday.
