The Chiefs announced today that they have placed DB Maurice Leggett on injured reserve.
Leggett, who had been playing both cornerback and safety, was injured in Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He has played in 22 career games (four starts) all with the Chiefs. He has recorded 47 tackles and an interception that he returned for a touchdown. Leggett originally signed with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent in 2008.
For all of the attention he got for two plays he didn’t finish against the Cowboys, Leggett has been a huge asset for the Chiefs defense this season. With the team having trouble at safety, he was able to shift from corner and do an above average job, something that you don’t see happen all too often at this level.
This move leaves the Chiefs with an open roster spot that they can fill. The logical move at this point would be promoting S Ricky Price from the practice squad, but as we know there are plenty of players looking for work that Todd Haley and Scott Pioli can bring in to fill the spot.
