Chiefs Re-Sign Lokey, Release Favorite

The Kansas City Chiefs have re-signed NT Derek Lokey to the practice squad.

Lokey was with the Chiefs for all of 2008 as a rookie free agent.  He spent 15 of those weeks on the practice squad and the final week on the active roster.  He was released before the start of the regular season.

Even though they still had an empty roster spot on the practice squad after promoting WR Quinten Lawrence to the active roster last week, the team decided to release NT Marlon Favorite.  Favorite had been on the practice squad since October 21st.  He was a teammate of current Chiefs starters Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson at LSU.

Kansas City still has one spot open on their practice squad.

I’m bummed to see Favorite didn’t work out.  He is a huge kid with a ton of potential that didn’t show enough to the Panthers in training camp or the Chiefs since he signed.

Lokey hung around all last season and through training camp but I’d love to know what he is going to do now that he couldn’t do immediately after first cuts.  He’s a year older and 30 pounds lighter than Favorite.

It’s hard to get too worked up over the workings of the practice squad, I just would rather have Favorite given a chance to work his way to the active roster than Lokey.
