The Kansas City Chiefs have brought their roster down to the league maximum of 80 with the release of K Todd Carter and by placing OT Ryan O’Callaghan on injured reserve.
Now that they have gotten past the first cut down, the Chiefs will go through their final evaluations for the 53-man roster Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers. The roster must be cut to 53 by Saturday.
This first batch of cuts — seven yesterday and two today — didn’t include any surprises. None of the nine players involved were even on the bubble in our last “The Right 53” roster prediction. Though placing O’Callaghan on IR — ending his 2011 season — all but guarantees that Jared Gaither will break camp on the Chiefs active roster. They simply don’t have many options at tackle right now.
