Over a week into training camp, Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel finally has one of his favorite targets back on the field with him. Head coach Todd Haley has removed TE Tony Moeaki from the physically unable to perform list.
Moeaki landed on the PUP list after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery in March and had spent all of training camp in the rehab area for the Chiefs. He finally appeared ready to go Monday morning when he took part in the team’s walkthrough, even running routes and catching passes from Cassel.
While the Chiefs have multiple options at wide receiver and running back, Moeaki represents the only proven weapon at tight end. As a rookie he caught 47 passes for 556 yards and three touchdowns. Even with the addition of WRs Steve Breaston and first-round pick Jonathan Baldwin, the Chiefs are going to need Moeaki healthy for the offense to fire on all cylinders.
