Scouts from the Kansas City Chiefs were present at today’s Notre Dame practice in South Bend. Joining them were representatives from the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts.
There are a handful of very interesting NFL prospects playing for the Irish and the Chiefs currently hold 8 draft picks (and counting!) so it’s never too early to keep tabs on the players of note at each school Kansas City is scouting.
Jimmy Clausen – QB
Along with Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford and Washington’s Jake Jocker, Clausen has a chance to be the first quarterback off the board in April. There are a lot of directions the Chiefs could go come Draft Day, but this isn’t one of them.
Golden Tate – WR
All this man does is make plays, plain and simple. Tate had over 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore and with five games left this year he already has 927 yards with 9 scores. He has also rushed for 3 touchdowns in his career and has experience as a kick returner.
There will be questions about Tate’s height and speed as the Draft approaches, but he will have a chance to answer both of those at the combine. There will never be a question about his big play ability and that’s what should put him at the end of the first round or early part of the second.
Kansas City should be very interested with one of their second round picks if the talented Junior is still on the board.
Sam Young – OT
If you’re looking for a Notre Dame player to keep an eye on, Young is your man. He fits the profile of a guy that could be part of the “right 53”. Young is massive at 6-7/315, has started every game of his career and as a senior is enrolled in the Mendoza College of Business.
Young could be a solid combine away from being a mid first round pick, but right now is probably sitting in the late portion of the opening round. Young could be a target of Pioli’s with one of the Chiefs’ two second round picks.
