The Kansas City Chiefs have added some speed to their roster by signing free agent CB Mikail Baker. He was a seventh round pick of the St. Louis Rams last season before being injured and then released.
Baker was a star wide receiver in high school and played some at Baylor before moving to the defensive backfield. He is also one of the most dangerous kick returners in school history.
The biggest red flag for Baker is his injury history. He pulled off a rarity in college by playing in games in six consecutive seasons after he was granted two separate medical redshirts. He then was unable to hang on with the Rams last year because of a sprained knee.
Even after recovering from ACL surgery at Baylor, Baker was able to run a 4.41 40 leading up to the 2011 draft, so his speed has the potential to get him onto the Chiefs this summer. The first thing he needs to do is finally prove he can stay healthy.
