Kansas City Chiefs Sign O’Connel, Release Becht

The revolving door at tight end continued on Wednesday when the Kansas City Chiefs re-signed Jake O’Connell and released Anthony Becht.

The two had been swapped for each other less than two weeks ago.  Becht played in the last two games, but did not catch a pass, serving primarily as a blocker.  He left Sunday’s loss to the San Diego Chargers with an injury.

O’Connell broke camp with the Chiefs and caught one pass for 15 yards in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills.  O’Connell worked out for the New England Patriots this week, who are looking to replace the injured Aaron Hernandez.

With Becht hurting and the Chiefs only carrying two tight ends on the roster, O’Connell made sense as a player that already is well versed in Todd Haley’s offense.

If the team continues to struggle running the ball, don’t be surprised if they bring in a third tight end to give them a little more options with their run blocking.
