This isn’t exactly the sort of move Chiefs fans were looking to be the first one made after officially naming Romeo Crennel, as head coach, but Kansas City has signed G Darryl Harris to a futures contract.
Six players from the practice squad were signed to futures contracts last week with only Harris and DB Quinten Lawrence being the only ones not retained. It’s curious why Harris wasn’t initially signed, but either way he will be in Kansas City for the offseason as he tries to finally stick to the active roster.
Harris is a versatile offensive lineman that can play anywhere in a pinch, something that can be invaluable for a team as they try to accommodate aches and pains throughout a season. He spent the entire season on the practice squad and was a practice squad/futures contract player last year as well.
In Scott Pioli’s first offseason he signed five members from the practice squad after the season and last year he decided to keep the entire eight man squad. With that history, don’t be surprised if we see Lawrence’s name pop back up on the Chiefs roster between now and training camp.
