Chiefs Trade Tank Tyler To Panthers

The Kansas City Chiefs continued to stockpile draft picks today by trading NT Tank Tyler to the Carolina Panthers for a TankTyler45th round selection in April’s draft.

Tyler had been battling Ron Edwards for the starting tackle spot with Edwards most recently listed as the starter over the third year veteran.  He was a 3rd round pick in the 2007 draft and leaves only Dwayne Bowe and Kolby Smith from that year still on the Chiefs roster.

Well that’s certainly interesting.  There have been plenty of Chiefs trade rumors with the deadline looming tomorrow afternoon, but most of them have surrounded Glenn Dorsey and Derrick Johnson not Tyler.

I still don’t think Dorsey will be moved, but if Pioli can get any sort of value for DJ you can bet he’ll be sent packing as well.  It’s been clear from day 1 that as soon as Todd Haley knows a player doesn’t fit with his program they move on.  When it’s a player that has no value (Will Franklin) they are cut immediately.  While others (Tyler Thigpen, Tyler) are held onto until Pioli can turn them into a draft pick.

Scott Pioli now owns 8 draft picks in the 2010 draft and might want to use April as his two day complete roster overhaul.  That could mean there’s some truth to the Dorsey and Johnson rumors.
