The Kansas City Chiefs were favored the last two weeks at home against struggling teams, but all that has changed now that they are leaving the friendly confines of Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs one again find themselves back as underdogs.
Depending on where you look, the Oakland Raiders are 1.5 to 3 point favorites over the AFC West leading Chiefs.
Last week the Chiefs were favored by 8 points over the Buffalo Bills, a number that turned out to be too big as Kansas City won on a field goal in the final seconds of overtime.
This time around the Chiefs are facing an opponent that is fresh off their second dismantling in as many weeks. On Sunday the Raiders beat down the Seahawks 33-3 in Oakland with Seattle not scoring until 9 minutes left in the game. It could be written off as a fluke performance if they hadn’t just hung 59 points on the Broncos in Denver.
As much as I’d like to see the oddsmakers reward the Chiefs for their two game lead in the division (and I can’t believe I’m saying this) the Raiders are playing lights out right now. Their offense has played well two weeks in a row (and three of four) to go along with a revitalized defense.
You might not want to hear it, but the Raiders deserve to be favored at home. If the Chiefs were playing at Arrowhead I would think the home team would still be holding the 2.5 point advantage.
Unless a significant injury comes to light over the next couple of days, don’t expect this line to move much either way. That means the Chiefs will be back to playing with points in the eyes of Vegas. The only question is if will help the team to be back in the underdog roll even though they are sitting in first place.
