There are few guarantees when it comes to the NFL, but one is that Gus Johnson can make anything sound exciting. This weekend he gets to bring that excitement to Arrowhead Stadium as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Minnesota Vikings.
So even if the Chiefs day ends with Matt Cassel failing to be able to put a baseball cap on his head, it will certainly be the most exciting sounded minor mishap we’ve seen all season.
Unfortunately for Kansas City football fans, this could be the last time the world’s most exciting football announcer calls a game this season. With Johnson’s move to FOX this season, he will only call games in which an NFC team is on the road and the only other Chiefs matchup that fits that bill is Week 15 against the Green Bay Packers.
Johnson will be joined in the booth on Sunday by the not-nearly-as-exciting Charles Davis. The third member of their team will be former University of Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster, working the sideline in his first year covering the NFL.
He’s always been known for his over-the-top delivery, but last season he had an unreal run of close games with wild endings that nearly caused his head to explode. The best example was a Hail Mary as time expired in the Jaguars-Texans game last season.
If you need a reminder of what exciting Chiefs football sounds like, look no further than this Matt Cassel-to-Dwayne Bowe TD from last year’s game against the Houston Texans.
