After heading home to be with his family following the murder of his brother, Buffalo Bills DT Marcell Dareus was back at practice on Thursday. The second-year player made it clear he will be ready to put the pads on Sunday.
“I got caught up with everything and got acclimated with the game plan,” Dareus said. “I am focused. I know I have a lot of things going on off the field, but I am here and ready to play.”
It clearly would have been understandable if Dareus missed this week’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs as he mourned such an enormous loss. But the defensive tackle wanted to be there for both of his families.
“I will continue to keep in contact with my family back home and make sure everyone is OK down there. I am ready to continue to prepare for this week’s game with my family here. Then I will go home and be with my family.”
Dareus lining up will be huge for a Bills team that is looking to rebound after a setback against the New York Jets last week. And while wins and losses seem trivial at times of tragedy, it seems like being able to get back out there with his teammates is a big help for Dareus right now.
