The Kansas City Chiefs were back on the field today to continue their OTAs and there will be a full rundown of the day’s events later on. One thing that I’m sure will not be overlooked in the coming days is LB Derrick Johnson appearing with the first team defense, according to KCChiefs.com.
Johnson has been packaged together with Jovan Belcher running with the second team defense while Demorrio Williams and Corey Mays have been on the first team.
Today those two groups flip flopped with DJ and Belcher getting reps with the first team and Williams and Mays getting their work in as part of the second unit.
I’ll say it again: don’t read too much into where a player is on June 1st.
With that being said, it has to be refreshing for Johnson to get a little consistent time with the starters. In his limited opportunities last year he performed like a starter and by all accounts he has been acting like a starter so far in the offseason.
There’s a good chance that these four guys will flip-flop again this week, but there’s no better way for Johnson to show he belongs up there than performing while lined up with the first team.
